Anantnag Encounter Live Updates: Hunt for Terrorists in J&K Continues

Amidst the chaos in Anantnag, the last rites of Major Ashish Dhonack were held in Panipat, Haryana, as he was laid to peace. He was one of the 4 bravehearts who was martyred in the terrorist attack in Anantnag district of Jammu Kashmir on Wednesday, 14th September.

While the hunt for terrorists continues, two suspects have been apprehended and 2 pistols, 5 hand grenades and other weapons of war have been recovered from Uri, Baramulla. The investigation is still underway, says the Indian Army.

A fresh attempt to eliminate terrorist activities in the dense forests of Kokernag turned chaotic after the encounter of 3 officers. The first gunfire broke early in the morning on Wednesday when the joint operation of the army and Jammu Kashmir police commenced in the backwoods of Kokernag. The operation to hunt down terrorists was halted overnight after 2 army officers and a senior police official were killed. The departed were recognized as Colonel Manpreet Singh, Major Ashish Dhonack and DSP Humayun Bhat along with rifleman Ravi Kumar.

The assault was claimed by the Resistance Front, a subsidiary of Lashkar-e-Taiba, revealing it as an act of revenge for the killing of their leader Riyaz Ahmed in POK earlier this month.
